Oliver Leith - Honey Siren
Performed live at the Wigmore Hall, March 2021. Oliver Leith - Honey Siren I. (Like thick air) II. (Full like drips) III. (Like slow dancing in honey) Oliver wrote this piece especially for the 12 ensemble in 2019. He writes; "I was thinking about sirens; the wailing kind, not the bird women singing on rocks. They make these beautiful, huge oblong sweeping glissandi between high and low, like a machine crying. They usually signal something ominous; these sirens do not. They are honeyed, dripping in globules of sweetness, golden and moving between solid and fluid. Like a smiling alarm.”

Divisions of 12 - Lilja
'Lilja' Album - 'Divisions of 12 in Iceland' Eloisa-Fleur Thom - violin 'Divisions of 12' features the principal members of The 12 ensemble, London's un-conducted string orchestra. The players come together in various combinations to perform smaller-scale chamber music. In the first of this 'Icelandic Field Recording' series, leader and Artistic Director Eloisa-Fleur Thom performs as a soloist. 'Lilja' is thought to be one of the oldest surviving Icelandic folk tunes. This tonally ambiguous melody was given to a religious poem called 'Lilja' meaning 'Lily', written by Eysteinn Ásgrímsson in the fourteenth century. The original poem contains over 100 verses. The audio and visuals were recorded at the Tvísöngur sound sculpture, Seyðisfjörður, on 23 October 2015. The five differently sized concrete interconnected domes each resonate to one of the five tones in Icelandic traditional folk song, working as a natural amplifier. Each layer of the multi-track is recorded in a different acoustic dome. The sculpture was built in 2012 by artist Lukas Khnes.

Divisions of 12 - A Languorous Window Stands White
'A Languorous Window Stands White' from Hafliði Hallgrímsson's 'Seven Epigrams' for violin and cello (1999) Divisions of 12 in Iceland Eloisa-Fleur Thom - violin Max Ruisi - cello In a bold new international project for the 2015/16 season, 12 ensemble's principal players visit the beautiful remote town of Seyðisfjörður, Iceland to explore and record a series of live recordings of intimate chamber music works. Each recording is made at a unique site-specific location and accompanied by a short film. This project is partnered with Heima, an artistic residency programme in Iceland. Artistic Directors Eloisa-Fleur and Max recorded Hallgrímsson's 'A Languorous Window Stands White' at Bláa Kirkjan, Seyðisfjörður on 29th January 2016. Hafliði Hallgrímsson is an Icelandic cellist and composer, currently living in Bath, UK. Hafliði was the Principal Cellist of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra for many years before leaving that position in 1983 to pursue a full-time career as a composer. The collection of footage was shot in the mountains surrounding the East Icelandic town of Seyðisfjörður.
